Capella Auriga is a multi-talented artist, from acting and comedy to rapping and dancing, she definitely lives up to her name. She named herself after Capella, which is the brightest star in the Auriga constellation. They say it shines so bright because it is actually a group a stars. Similarly, Boston’s own Capella’s group of talents have her stand out among the rest. Originally from Roxbury the recent college graduate has gone viral on Instagram and Facebook platforms. She recently garnered a lot of attention for a video she shared after her graduation. In the video she proclaims,Listen baby I’m a college graduate okay?A recent grad, you can’t take me to Friday’s no more, I’m filet mignon worthy alright. How you feeling like.and then breaks into dance with family members.

The video was shared on over 15 Instagram pages and over 10k views on Facebook and counting. An excellent gift for one celebrating her achievement of a Bachelors of Arts in Human Services. She also spent a year at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts or VCUarts. Ms. Auriga has published a book titled, “The Band” available on Wattpad. Wattpad is an online storytelling community where users share written works such as articles, stories, fan fiction, and poems.

Summer 2016, at the last show of the Mass Tour, which The Wake Up Radio show covered, was the first time we were introduced to Capella Auriga. We remember introducing ourselves to her and struggling to say her name. To be fair we were at Club Elixir in Methuen and there was a performance going on in the background. Capella seemed a bit timid as she spit a few bars for us. A few weeks later she went to the studio with our radio show Co- host Squeeze and Maliqe Young, a talented singer/songwriter, and recorded “Mercy”. The first time hearing the song and hearing her voice on the track we knew she was special. The song instantly became our anthem for the summer.

Since then she has recorded a remix to Chiraq with Squeeze and her debut song and video, “I am Nobody” which she has recently dropped the video for on YouTube.

This song has as completely separate sound from mainstream music. When listening to the lyrics her message is clear. She wants you to truly listen to her message. Her song represents the unheard, misunderstood and underrated artists. She state, “ I want my listeners to take whatever it is they want to take from my song.” Everyone interprets information and music differently and she is okay with supporters finding their own meaning in her music. Some of her favorite artists are Fabulous, Rihanna, Big Sean, Chris Brown and Marvelous Stefan from Brockton.

Capella is definitely a creative being and expresses herself in her many forms of art. If you have been following her the past year you were lucky enough to see her growth of expression especially through comedy. She is very active and share videos daily on Instagram and the consistency has paid off, she has more than tripled her number of followers on IG since we have first started following her. Her comedy skits cover a large variety of topics. What’s even more interesting is she does not write her ideas down, she creates them in that exact moment.  She states, “This is not a hobby for me, it's my job. There’s a difference, I don’t do this for fun, but I have fun while doing it. This is my job this is what I want to do for a living and if your talent or gift doesn’t inspire you everyday and make you want to excel in it then i would advise one to not pursue it.” Which is some great advice. It will never feel like work if you enjoy what you do. It’s truly inspiring to watch Capella work. The passion she has for what she does is intoxicating and motivates people to find what they love to do.

Capella believes creative arts have a healing property. It makes sense, the great thing about being entertained is that for the moment the stresses in life no longer matter because life is so beautiful and art replicates the beauty of life. She really has a strong desire to connect with those who appreciate her art. Unity is very important to her. Which is why she has been planning artist meet ups and promoting them online and really encouraging creative to come together and create. So do not be afraid to shoot her a message if you want to work.

What’s really special about Capella is her humility, humbleness and just being a positive spirit. She has a giving heart. She has worked with youth since the age of 15. When she was in high school she wanted to become a teacher or social worker. Working and providing care for the broken and needy feeds her giving spirit. The Roxbury native has seen a lot growing up but it has given her tough skin. The same things happen almost daily and she has had friends who has been a product of their environment. Yet, she is still standing and appreciates the blessing.

The music industry is dominated by men and as a female artist, the challenges faced are different than their male counterparts.  A lot of the time the lines can get blurred and it goes from going to the studio to trying to go out on a date. Mixing business with pleasure is not something that Capella would find herself taking part. There are not many women in the city who are involved in entertainment and her advice is to never be too nice and keep a strict demeanor so the game doesn't eat you alive.

With all the pressures of the industry Ms. Auriga stays humble and releases stress by meditation, yoga, reading and spending time with friends. She says, “ I cherish alone time because it's sacred and essential to me, but one must have friends that recharge their energy.” Which is how we continue to grow in our purpose by surrounding ourselves with positive people that share the same appreciation of life.

What's next for Ms. Auriga well she is in the works of created her next music video. She aims to express to the viewers who she is as an artist and as a person. She will continue acting and is currently working on a short film. Capella will continue to share her art and create her destiny as she she chases her dreams.

Her shout outs: “The highest source is to give thanks. Maliqe Young and Squeeze because those are my guys and are who I recorded my first song with.”
